Voyage To Windward The Life Of Robert Louis Stevenson

£15.00

Product description

FIRST EDITION: Pale blue cloth covered book with a dent to the lower front corner. The spine is slightly faded and has some foxing marks. The dust jacket has nibbled edges and some discolouration along the folds, both ends of the spine are also nibbled. Internally, the first and last three pages have some foxing but otherwise the book is clean, bright and tightly bound. Published in 1952 by Faber & Faber.
A biography of Robert Stevenson, fully documented with notes, photographs, appendices, and references. Furnas is the first to have made full use of the extensive unpublished material in the Beineck collection at Yale. He has also been able to study and quote from the letters to Mrs. Sitwell (Lady Colvin) which Sir Sidney Colvin gave to the National Library of Scotland with the proviso that they were not to be used until 1949. Furthermore unlike all other biographers of Stevenson since Balfour, Furnas has first-hand and thorough knowledge of the South Seas, their geography, politics and culture.
