‘The King Papers’ is a large format booklet with cream card covers published by J Walter Thompson, London, 1988 on the occasion of the retirement of advertising executive Stephen King (not the novelist).

The papers included are:

‘Can research evaluate the creative content of advertising?’ (1967)
‘What is a brand?’ (1971)
‘Practical progress from a theory of advertisements’ (1975)
‘Public versus private opinion’ (1979)
‘Advertising: art and science’ (1982)
‘Another turning point for brands?’ (1985)

Stephen King spent most of his working life with advertising agency J Walter Thompson. He introduced the strategy of account planning in advertising, and his paper ‘What is a brand?’ given at the 1970 Advertising Association Conference introduced the idea that branding is vital to a company’s success. He died in 2006 at the age of 74.

The publication is generally in very good condition, with a little fading around the spine, marks left by a paperclip and a few other marks.

We will also include a separate, smaller booklet with only the text of ‘What is a brand?’
