Arthur Ransome tale of the lake district, involving the cast of "Swallows and Amazons" and others in a tale of prospecting for gold. First edition (1936), used hardback in very good condition with unclipped dust jacket in good condition. The book has bright, clean covers with some minor bumping to the corners and the head and tail of the spine. The gilt lettering on the front and spine is bright and clear. Edges of the text block are darkened. There is some minor marking and darkening to the maps at the front and rear of the book. Otherwise the book is clean throughout, with tight binding. However, p121 is badly folded with a couple of small (<5mm) closed tear at the leading edge. The d/j is worn, particularly at the folds and along the top and bottom edges, where there are chips and small, closed tears. The spine is darkened, with two or three water stains. there are some small marks on the front and some grubbiness to the rear.
