The Golden Horseshoe

£39.99

Product description

A scarce first edition copy of a fantasy tale written for older children. Set against a background of Irish legends, this story is alive with excitement and comedy. Tinker girl Sharon's favourite legend is about Neeve of the Golden Hair and Tir Nan Og, the land of eternal youth, which mortals seldom find and from which they cannot return. One day she throws an old horseshoe into a stream and when the water washes it she sees that it is pure gold. Floating down from the sky is the horse who has lost it; on his back is Neeve. She takes Sharon away with her to the Land of the Young where she falls into the power of the enchantor Balor, and is freed by her prince. How she gives up her wonderful life in the legendary land to help her tinker friends who are in trouble, and how she finds happiness again unexpectedly make a perfect climax to the story.

The book has green cloth covers with gilt titles and is in almost fine condition. There are light foxing speckles to the upper text block edge and a few spots on the front edge. Some bumping to spine ends. Inside pages are clean and bright. The illustrated jacket has some light general marks on the back and a small closed tear, approx. 7 mm, to the top right front corner; light rubbing to other corners and to spine ends, which have slight creasing. The story is illustrated with delightful b/w drawings by Robert Geary.
