The story of seven children who form The Blue Door Theatre Company, renovating a disused chapel and putting on plays. Despite opposition from parents and friends, they finally overcome all obstacles and win a drama competition. It is a tale of triumph over adversity.

The Swish of the Curtain was begun in 1938 when the author was 14 but was not published until 1941. The novel has been reprinted many times and has been adapted for television and radio. It was followed by four sequels.

1949 printing of a book first published in 1941.

Illustrated by Newton Whittaker. Colour frontispiece with B&W illustrations throughout. Blue boards. Green top edge to pages.

CONDITION: Minor foxing and tanning to endpapers and page edges. Previous owner's inscription on front endpaper + school award bookplate on inside board. Minor wear to spine, board edges and corners. Minor scuffing and marking to boards. Dust Jacket has moderate wear with minor nicks and creases to edges and corners and is unclipped. Plates are clean and neat. Binding still tight with very little wobble. Dust jacket has been covered in protective clear plastic without any adhesive and can be removed easily without damaged to the book.
