The Wooden Horse

£4.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

The Wooden Horse by Eric Williams. Illustrated edition of the classic escape story prepared for young readers by the author: "The Greeks made a Wooden Horse and by means of it entered the city of Troy; in 1943 two British officers made a Wooden Horse and by means of it escaped from a German camp. Together with a third companion, they were the only British officers to escape successfully and to reach England from this camp, though many tried. It was Stalag-Luft III, designed to hold the Germans' most prized prisoners, aircrew, and considered to be escape-proof. Their escape from the camp itself is only a part of the story. Once outside the barbed wire, they were still faced by the problem of getting out of Germany. They had many adventures and many narrow shaves. Time after time they were nearly caught. One of the escapers was Eric Williams, but in The Wooden Horse he calls himself 'Peter Howard'. Although this and all the other names in the book are fictitious, all the facts are true. After they returned to England the three escapers were decorated with the Military Cross for their gallantry, and The Wooden Horse, the story of their adventure, has become the most famous escape story of the Second World War."

Book in good condition with some page foxing and wear to the dust jacket.
