Ruth Manning-Sanders, renowned storyteller, has selected her own favourites from the more than one hundred stories in eight of her books devoted to various fairy-tale characters. To these twenty-eight tales she has added four new ones to make a large and sprightly gift anthology. Dwarfs, dragons, giants, witches, wizards, and mermaids abound, as do beautiful princesses, handsome princes, and nerve-shattering ghosts and goblins. Robin Jacques' illustrations capture perfectly the marvel and charm of these tales collected from all over the world.
The book has red boards and black titles, and a drawing of a genie on the front. Corners and spine ends are bumped, and there is wear along the lower edges resulting in fraying of the cloth, particularly at the corners. The book is ex-school library and there are two faint old sticky tape marks on the front cover and also on the back, where a library cover was formerly attached. There are library stamps on the end papers and title page, and a borrowing list is attached to the free rear end paper; the upper and lower text block edges have library 'discard' stamps. The illustrated jacket has only a few light marks but has suffered creasing, tears and chips along the upper edge, with two closed tears, approx. 1.8cm, at the top of the spine. A library index sticker is attached in the lower half of the spine.
