Product description

Title: Island of Happy Exiles

Author: Fay King

Illustrated by Betsy Smith

The island of the Island of Happy Exiles is St Helena, where Napoleon spent the last six years of his life in exile.

Mr and Mrs Jones lived there when they were first married, and although their two children Lois and Dennis were born much later in England, it was always the whole family's great ambition to go back. The children were so familiar with the island through listening to their parents that although they hadn't seen it, they could describe in detail the pink cottage on the hill with the orange trees in the garden.

Then came the day when Mr Jones made some extra money and they were able to make the journey. With high hopes they started out, but things didn't prove to be so straightforward as they had expected.

' Their ' cottage was no longer empty. It had been bought by a mysterious old man who resisted all attempts at friendship until rather strange circumstances brought him and the Joneses together.

The Island of Happy Exiles, is as its title suggests, a happy book and the people that the Jones children meet are happy people - full of a simple joy of living.
