The Iron Orchard - UK First Edition

£45.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

Written by a man who knew the Texas oil industry inside out, this book is a fast-moving and gripping tale set in an oil company and featuring a variety of well-drawn characters. The author's other well-known title is "Hodak", set in South America and published in 1969.

Edmund Pendleton Van Zandt, Jr. [pseud. Tom Pendleton] (1916–1972) was an oil producer and writer. After military service (from 1942) he studied law, graduating in 1949. Van Zandt worked for oil companies in various jobs (roustabout, oil scout, and foreign oil concession negotiator in Venezuela and London). He returned to the United States in 1962 as assistant to the president of the General American Oil Company of Texas at Dallas. In 1963 he joined the Fort Worth National Bank. He died in Fort Worth in July 1972.

Our copy is in almost immaculate condition, the unclipped dust jacket showing no signs of wear, but a very slight darkening at the top on the inside, and the exterior of the book itself likewise unmarked. Bound in brown cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. Inside, the binding is firm, all pages clean and bright, and the only visible defect is a small dark mark on the long edge of the textblock.
