Product description

Title: The Last of the Mohicans

Author: James Fenimore Cooper

The Last of the Mohicans can be regarded as the first of the Westerns. James Fenimore Cooper deserves much of the credit for inventing the entire genre in this 1826 novel. His frontier maybe in the East, in upstate New York, but it is populated with the Western's most archetypal characters: the taciturn, isolated frontiersman, a whiteman who has mastered the wilderness; the primitive but noble native American and his sage, stoical father; the treacherous native warrior, whose fiendishness will be symbolised by his attempt to despoil white maidenhood; the over civilised Anglo American soldier, whose rigid adherence to his training puts him at a disadvanatge in the wilderness; and the chaste, beautiful young women representing family, domesticity , and civilization, whose advent in the wilderness puts them in the danger that drives the plot.

The book has an introduction by Sarah Churchwell.

The book has been illustrated by Robert Hunt.

The book is in overall good condition throughout.

The book has brown boards with black and gilt lettering to the spine.

The book has an illustration on the upper board.

The book comes with a slipcase which has wear on the outer upper edge.

Page 103 of the book has been creased back on the outer upper edge.

There is very minor foxing on the upper and outer page edges.
