Very readable stories by an extraordinary woman and Kenya personality. Beryl Markham grew up in Kenya, on a remote farm. She spoke Swahili, Nandi and Maasai. In 1931 she turned to flying, ferrying mail and big game hunters to distant locations in the country. In 1936 she made world headlines by becoming the first person in the world to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic from east to west. She was also the first woman in Africa to be granted a racehorse trainer's licence, with six Kenya Derbys and numerous trophies to her credit.
