Vie et mort en quatre rimes

£6.99

Product description

Used copy, but very well kept. Slight edge wear on back sleeve.

Translated from the back cover;
"Amos Oz, born in Jerusalem in 1939, is the author of a multifaceted work. since a first international success with his novel my Michael, he has established himself as the most important Israeli writer of his generation. he has received numerous literary prizes and awards throughout the world (including the Foreign Femina prize for the black box). among his most recent books, a story of love and darkness (Gallimard, 2004) has earned him an unsurpassed popular success."

When a great writer fails to stay focused while on the stage of a cultural center at a party in his honor, things may get out of hand. He anticipates public questions, so predictable, so boring. So why not let his mind wander, his eyes wander around the room? To seize the silhouettes and the faces seen in order to invent to them a destiny, a biography or simply a little love story? But the game is dangerous, and reality remembers the memory of our writer by the voice of Rochale Reznik, who reads with disturbing sensitivity extracts from his latest book ...
The plot of Life and death in four rhymesis dense, entertaining and rich in twists and turns, but above all it contains a very melancholy reflection on the difficult cohabitation of the public sphere and the intimate, and misunderstandings that inevitably threaten the writer, especially if he is famous. The biting irony of the text seems to warn us against a too serious interpretation of all readings, however Amos Oz may never have been so brilliantly affirming the necessity of the imaginary and the power of literature.
