254 pages. Worn red boards with slightly discoloured gilt title on spine. Dust jacket is in fair condition. a few open tears along the top of the jacket and there is a 2.5 cm open tear. The jacket has been slightly discoloured due to age and there are two small pink marks on the rear of the jacket. Plastic library dust jacket present as well. All pages present. Pages are clean with some light foxing to the side of the block.

'The story of Winter and Rough weather begins when James and Rhoda Johnstone have just been married and return from their honeymoon to the hill-farm of Boscath in the Scottish Borders. Rhoda has been used to a gay life in London, and she feels that if she had been translated to Mars she would not have found life upon that planet more utterly and completely different. Rhoda is a painter and has given up a promising career to marry James; sometimes she feels regretful- was it right when you had been dowered with an artistic talent to bury it in domesticity?
