The Hero of this story while still a youth entered the service of Frederick the Great, and by a succession of fortunate circumstances and perilous adventures, rose to the rank of colonel. Attached to the staff of the king, he rendered distinguished services in many battles, in one of which he saved the king's life. Twice captured and imprisoned, he both times escaped from the Austrian fortresses.
This copy of the story, does not show any dates although it is believed to be circa 1915.
This book is hard back and has blue/ green boards, which are decorated with an image of a man on horse back. All the text on the boards is black, with a further picture on the spine. The boards do show some signs of shelf wear, with bumped corners and shelf wear. The boards, may improve on colour if cleaned. The item is a combination of text and drawings, with one coloured image, being on a lose sheet within the book. The end papers of the book are discoloured from age. the internal pages are mostly clean and clear, although some do have a small amount of foxing and paper darkening.
The rear pages of the book, show a reading list, which does have some pencil marks from a previous owner.
