A Papyrus Of The Late Middle Kingdom

£190.00

Product description

This book which is a reprint of the original 1955 edition provides an analysis of the papyrus antiquities that are held in the Brooklyn Museum. The book is in good condition. There is no dust jacket. The cover is clean and sound with only minor rubbing to the edges. Inside, the book is tight and clean apart from on the front end paper where there are two small lines where the previous owner has Tipp-Exed out some writing. There is also some foxing on the fore edge.

The ancient Papyruses were acquired by Charles Edwin Wilbour on one of his many journeys up the Nile during the winters of 1881-1896, later presented by his widow to the Brooklyn museum. These are likely to have come from the site of ancient Thebes. There were between five and six hundred fragments of papyrus divided into 19 separate lots. The Papyruses featured in this book have been edited with translation and commentary by William C Hayes. This book provides a detailed study of the Papyrus, an important body of work to inform us of the writings of this early society.

Oxfam Bookshop Bath

The Bath Oxfam Books and Music shop has been open since 2001. We stock a wide selection of books, vinyl, cds and dvds but always welcome donations to keep our shelves full and interesting. Following our shop refit in 2009 we have a modern, bright and spacious interior where customers are welcome to browse at their leisure. We do not specialise in any one area but often seem to do particularly well with History books and Vinyl. Thanks to the wonderful donations we receive on a daily basis through the door, and from our local Book Banks, we offer our customers a fantastic range of stock both in the shop and online. Please come and see for yourselves!
