This publication comprises a complete inventory of the Ashmolean Museum's holdings of metalwork in gold, silver, copper-alloy and lead, dating from the early Anglo-Saxon period (fifth to seventh century AD) Each of these items (almost 1,200 are included) is described and illustrated ; chemical analyses are given for numerous examples and a full biography is provided. Many important individual pieces are included, such as the well-known Amherst and Monkton composite brooches, the Ixworth cross and the Tostock buckle, all gold embellished with garnets, as well as a range of everyday ornaments, dress fittings and domestic items.

This volume presents a large body of material in a coherent and systematic manner. Undoubtedly, it will be of value to all involved in the study of Anglo-Saxon material culture.

CONDITION: Tearing and folding to top of DJ (See photos) Light scuffs and wear to outside. Shelf wear to boards. Light crease to title page. Black boards are very good with bright gilt lettering on spine. Pages inside are clean, bright and unmarked. (See photos for details)
