Ar-Riyadh History and Development

£32.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

This book looks at the growth of the capital city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, since the beginning of the 20th Century. Supported by a large number of photographs, the book begins by briefly covering the early history of the city prior to the 1900's. It then looks at three different aerial photos to compare the city that existed at the start of the century to the city that is there now. It then looks at the earliest pictures of Riyadh, dating from 1912-1914. The next chapter has photos from 1917 to 1933 and shows as Riyadh is developed by the newly-created Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The following chapter is set in the 1930's after Riyadh is declared the capital city, and includes a number of paintings made by British officials. This is followed by photos from the 1940's that show the city expanding and modernising with electricity and new buildings. This continues into the next chapter, set in the 1950's and showing the development of roadways, new mosques and other developments to the city. The final chapter looks at the city at the time of publishing (1999) and includes a colour map that gives a comparison in size of the city in the 1940's, 1950's, 1970's, 1980's and 1996. The book is in good condition, with most of the damage suffered being done to the dust jacket. Inside the pages are clean, the binding strong and the illustrations are clear.
