£22.99

Product description

Some staining to outer page edges. Moderate damage to spine, but pages remain bound. Light wear to outer cover.

Book is written entirely in Portuguese.

In The Nights of Great Fogueiras, the journalist Domingos Meirelles tells the saga of the Prestes Column, revolutionary march that entered the history of Brazil. For two and a half years, a group of young officers from the São Paulo Army and Public Force wandered through the interior of the country, accompanied by a legion of civilians. After rigorous research and many interviews, Domingos Meirelles was able to gather testimonies, official reports and extensive American documentation. With all this material, the journalist reconstituted the political, economic and social scenario in which the tenentes revolt happened. The book recounts the origins of the rebellion of July 5, 1924, when a group of young lieutenants of the Army who participated in the frustrated uprising of the Forte de Copacabana in 1922, assault the barracks of the Public Force of São Paulo. More than a military rebellion, the Prestes Column was one of the most extraordinary revolutionary marches that have ever happened in Brazil.
