Bedfordshire at War

£4.99

Product description

Condition: very good, no markings or signs of distress.

From back cover:
'From the Monmouth Rebellion of 1685 to the colonial campaigns of the Victorian era and the First and Second World Wars of this century, the last 300 years of our history have been frequently darkened by war. This book is a pictorial record of the part played by Bedfordshire and its people in these conflicts. It also chronicles the exploits of the Bedfordshire (later Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire) Regiment from its formation in 1688 until its amalgamation with the Essex Regiment in 1958. The final chapter looks at the legacy of war, including local war memorials and the remains of wartime defences.
The pictures in this collection mostly come from an important archive held by Bedfordshire Record Office and include photographs taken between 1858 and 1995 as well as a selection of early paintings and documents. (..) will evoke poignant memories for many people and perhaps will bring more pictures to light. '
