Corpus of early Christian inscribed stones of south-west Britain

£40.00

Product description

Black cloth covered hardback with gilt lettering on spine, in excellent condition. Dust cover wrinkled at top of back. Hard cover in excellent condition. Fore-edge of pages and top edge of pages slightly discoloured. Pages clean and bright.

Early Christian inscribed stones of Celtic Britain constitute evidence of considerable importance for the study of the southwest in the period 500-1100 AD. The texts on many of the stones have deteriorated and the accurate recordings provided here will be essential sources for present and future scholars of pre-conquest Britain. The major part of the corpus consists of individual entries for each inscription. As well as a reading of the text itself. There are also sections devoted to the stones as a group, to the scripts and formulae employed, personal names occurring in the texts, and criteria for dating.
