Dialogus de Scaccario: The Course of the Exchequer

£12.99

Product description

The “Dialogus de Scaccario”, or “Dialogue concerning the Exchequer”, is a mediaeval treatise on the practice of the English Exchequer written in the late 12th century by Richard FitzNeal. The treatise, written in Latin, and known from four manuscripts from the 13th century, is set up as a series of questions and answers, covering the jurisdiction, constitution and practice of the Exchequer. This 1950 edition is bound in red cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine, and its top edge is stained red. It was translated with an introduction and notes by Charles Johnson. Condition: the boards are slightly warped. There is some mild marking and discolouration on the covers and spine. There is a previous owner’s sticker on the front paste-down, which has created an imprinted mark on the ffep. There is also a bookseller’s sticker on the front paste-down, and an owner’s signature in pen on the ffep. The rfep and paste-down show some mild crinkling and discolouration; however, the interior pages are generally clean and bright and the binding is strong.
