Early Man and the Ocean

£4.99

Product description

Title: Early Man and the Ocean: The beginning of navigation and seaborn civilizations

Author: Thor Heyerdahl

Thor Heyerdahl, famous throughout the world for his exploits on the Kon - Tiki balsa raft and the two Ra reed - boats on the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans respectively, has here brought together for popular consumption the essence of his thinking about migration routes and cultural origins. This is what his ocean adventures and his investigations on Easter Island and elsewhere were all about. Not to prove that Polynesians were descended from the pyramid builders of Egypt. Rather, that the oceans were not the barrier to early movement that we have always assumed them to have been but, because of their powerful currents and winds, were probably the actual culture bearers, serving as natural conveyor belts to carry man and civilisation from one part of the earth to another.

The book is in good condition throughout.

The book has dark blue boards and gilt lettering to the spine.

There is mild sprinkling on the outer edge.

The dust jacket has bumping on the front upper outer corner and rear upper outer corner.

The upper edge of the spine of the dust jacket has wear.

There is creasing on the rear inner upper edge of the sleeve of the dust jacket.
