Early Stuart Household Accounts

£6.99

Product description

The two sets of household accounts printed in this volume have much in common though they have been kept differently. They concern superficially similar households. william Cecil, 2nd Earl of Salisbury, had inherited Hatfield house and Salisbury House in the Strand, and acquired Quickswood in Clothall, near Baldock, in 1617. All of these houses appear in the Cecil accounts.
Edward Radcliffe, 6th Earl of Sussex, was the tenant of Gorhambury during the years covered by his accounts.
Although both of these aristocratic families were to be parliamentary supporters when the civil war came, their situation in the 1630s was not alike.

Oxfam Bookshop Hertford

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller, but it doesn't stop there. We sell a great range of donated music as well. Whether it's vintage LPs or the latest modern fiction you want, we're well worth a look! We also offer a range of greetings cards for birthday and other occasions. Call us to find out more.

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
