Elysium Britannicum, or The Royal Gardens

£55.00

Product description

Elysium Britannicum, or The Royal Gardens - John Evelyn

Edited by John E. Ingram and published by the University of Pennsylvania Press. First thus edition 2001. pp 492.
Dust jacket has excellent edges and corners, nice sheen marred only by a couple of near-invisible scratches to front face and light stains to rear face. Unclipped flap suggests this was a presentation copy.
Green cloth, as-new, with silver titles to spine.

Text block in unread condition but rather dusty and soiled along the top edges and some fox spots to other edges. This book spent too long on its shelf.
A few monotone sketches and no illustrations. There is a summary of the editorial notation used by Evelyn and Ingram along with explanations to the footnotes, endnotes, italicising, brackets etc. Fourteen appendices add to the bewilderment.

The reader can see what changes were made throughout the text.
Very scarce title.

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
