Feldherrnhalle: Forgotten Elite

£24.99

Product description

Alfonso Escuadra Sanchez has produced an unquestionably erudite work on units whose combat achievements deserve more widespread dissemination. The word 'Elite' is perhaps overused in modern military writing, but it undoubtedly sums up the Feldherrnhalle, whose military prowess was often beyond comparison. For the English language market, this volume will soon prove itself to be the primary source for those seeking information on the Feldherrnhalle units.

The formations which bore the title Feldherrnhalle present a paradox: elite in status and combat achievements, yet utterly obscure compared with peers, such as the Großdeutschland units. Partly this seems to be because association with the 'brown' SA is less glamorous than with the 'black' SS Knights - although the SA's main contribution as sponser was practical rather than political later in the War, imparting pre-military training of a particularly high quality; more likely the 'unlucky' combat history of the Feldherrnhalle is to blame, divisions bearing this name being encircled and annihilated not once but twice, first in Byelorussia in the summer of 1944, then in Budapest in early 1945.

The book is in fine condition with only a few light marks to corners and covers. Clean and bright inside. Illustrated throughout.
