Harwell: The Enigma Revealed - signed by author

£75.00

Product description

The Ministry of Supply took over RAF Harwell for Britain's nuclear research programme on 1st Jan 1946. Europe's first nuclear reactor was constructed inside an aircraft hangar. Harwell scientists pursued dreams of caging the Sun's power, developing reactors that bred more fuel than they consumed and assembling the first transistorised computer. But among them was a secret spy - Klaus Fuchs.

Nick Hance traces the history of Harwell through the analysis of the first pinch of moon dust and the first fitting of plutonium powered pacemakers to citizens as it became the biggest science park in Europe.
