History of England 4 Volumes

£24.99

Product description

The full title of the work is "History of England, from The Earliest Period to the Present Time; Compiled from the Most Authentic Sources." No publication date is given, but is estimated at 1871 / 1872. The history ends with the passing of the Reform Bill of 1868 and the final appendix refers to the rebuilding of a property in 1871. The binding is dark blue textured cloth, half bound in glossy black leather. The spine tiles are gilt with bar decoration. Each book has general surface rubbing and wear to edges and corners; the top corners of vol. 1 are bumped with some fraying. The binding is sound except for a slight break to the front end papers of Vol.1 and slight closed tears, approx. 7.5 cm, to the lower right spine edges of Vol. 3 and Vol.4. Pages 67-70 in Vol. 2 have become slightly loosened from the stitching. The text block edges are speckled red, which disguises foxing spots, with dust darkening to the top edges. End papers are foxed, foxing marks also appear occasionally on inside pages which are otherwise clean and bright. There are numerous elegant engraving plates of people and events throughout the volumes and some line drawings.
A heavy item requiring courier delivery.
