Iron Horses of the Santa Fe Trail

£26.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Title: Iron Horses of the Santa Fe Trail

Author: E D Worley

To students of railroad history and lore, Santa Fe is a magic name. No other railroad in US history approaches its achievements...the only railroad to link the vast expanse of the nation from the Great Lakes to the Pacific Coast and to the Gulf of Mexico....the only railroad to operate between Chicago and California all the way over its own rails....the first to operate "transcontinental" limiteds and, later, streamliners...a pioneer with many significant firsts in all fields of railway operations.
The history and development of the Santa Fe Railway and the Great Southwest that it has helped build are forever interwoven in the tales of steel rails that thrust civilization westward...and of the wonderful "Iron Horses" that advanced a nation to new, unconquered frontiers.
Here is a book that graphically portrays and in detail the history of the motive power of the Santa Fe, the railroad that helped build a nation. Here is a thorough, authentic history of the locomotives that pulled trains across prairies, deserts, mountains and plains. Inside you'll find early 4-4-0 "American" types, tiny but proud...as well as giant blue and yellow diesel - electric growlers that speed today's 100 - car manifests over 13,000 miles of steel ribbons...and all of the magnificent steam, gas electric and diesel machines in-between.
For the myriad Santa Fe fans everywhere...and those who just happen to like railroads...this 612 page book provides a delightful trip through the history of SAnta Fe motive power. Details on more than 5000 locomotives are covered in an all time roster and illustrated in nearly 1200 photographs and 500 diagrams. Included are many previously unpublished facts of historical value and interest.
The book is in overall good condition. The dust jacket is in good condition but has wear and tears on the upper and lower edge of the spine. The rear upper edge of the dust jacket has wear and tears. The book has blue boards with gilt lettering to the spine. The upper pages edges have some tanning.
