For over thirty years K. B. McFarlane was an astounding teacher and lecturer in the Modern History School at Oxford. Though his studied ranged widely over the whole late medieval period, he had a special interest in Lancastrian England. The first part of this book contains a series of lecture of Henry IV and a character study of Henry V. The second part consists of lectures on the Lollard Knights of Richard II and Henry IV, a study which grew out of the authors own "John Wyclifffe and the beginnings of English Nonconformity(1952)". The lectures were given in their final form in 1966, the year of his death, and contained some of his most recent work. The editors, both former pupils of his, have added notes and critical apparatus.
