Exhibition of watercolours, oils and sketches by acclaimed French artist Matthieu Dorval , Brussels ,24 June-10 July 2008.
The exhibition, entitled Land's End – Infinite Lands, is organised by the Regional Council of Brittany, part of the 'Celtic Connections' network, which comprises Ireland, Brittany, Cornwall and Galicia. The event also coincides with the launch of the French Presidency of the EU.
The 77 paintings on show vividly depict the headlands, peninsulas and islands that carve out the western-most points of the European continent, from south-west Ireland to the south of Galicia. They are accompanied by evocative texts by Breton journalist Chloé Batissou, inspired by the words of local people whose lives are inextricably linked to the wild and majestic Atlantic coastlines that are their home. The texts appear in the regional languages of the areas depicted.
