London Assize of Nuisance 1301-1431

£19.99

Product description

The book contains of a very full calendar in English of the three rolls in the Corporation of London Records Office, which record the assize of nuisance held in the City of London between 1301 and 1431. The assize of nuisance (a variant of the better-known assize of 'novel disseisin') concerned, in London, disputes between neighbours, and occasionally between the commonalty and an owner, relating to buildings, party walls, gutters, privies, windows, and other forms of interference with quiet enjoyment of property.

The book has black cloth covers with gilt titles on the spine, and was published without a jacket. The covers have a number of light general handling and rubbing marks, plus slight bumping to edges and spine ends. A former owner's surname is written neatly in the top corner of the front free end paper. The interior is clean and bright.

The book would be useful for anyone with an interest in the history of London and the disputes about property in medieval times.
