MEMOIRS OF HORACE WALPOLE and his contemporaies

£35.00

Product description

The memoirs of Walpole and his contemporaries draw on his letters, particularly those from Strawberry Hill. Both volumes have an engraved frontispiece, The first of Walpole himself, the second of Miss Berry. Both volumes are bound in brown cloth, with an impressed design on front, back and spine, gold titles on the spine and a gold representation of Srawberry Hill on the front. Both bindings are sound, with minimal wear, except volume 1 has a tear across the middle of the spine which has partially detached the spine cover, however this could be repaired. The binding was done by Josiah Westley and apparently passed into the ownership of the Earl of Bradford. Both volumes are signed Bradford -Weston ( for Weston Park) and carry the earls bookplate.
