Missions to the Niger

WAS £29.99 £19.95 Out Of Stock

Product description

This is a four volume set on the exploration of the Niger following its discovery by Mingo Park. Book 1 begins with the travels of Friedrich from Cairo to Murzuk between 1797 and 1798 and then leaps a quarter of a century to the great journey of Alexander Gordon Laing on his mission to Timbucktu from 1824 until his death in 1826. The travels of Lyon, Oudney, Denham and Clapperton on their Bornu Mission are the subject of volumes 2, 3 and 4. The set contains 33 plates, 9 maps and other illustrations.
The edges of the hardbacks are slightly browned. The pages are clean and the spine is tight. The dust jackets are slightly frayed at the corners and spine ends and the spines of the dust jackets are discoloured from dust. There is the odd light stain on the dustjackets and a couple of thumbprints. The blue cloth boards are in very good condition, and the gilt lettering and illustration are clear. Each copy is stamped on the inside cover.
