One Blood - A Novel Set in Pre-independence Zambia (First Edition)

WAS £19.99 £13.99

Product description

White red and black paperback book, with some light rubbing marks to the spines, and crease marks to the back. Edges are lightly worn. 2 pages loose at front. Owners inscription to rear of title page.

published by Neczam (National Educational Company of Zambia Ltd) 1970

Solomon Chisashi, a Northern Rhodesian African, starts the life of a normal African of his time but the journey to the south in search of his long lost father begins a series of encounters with the white man, his culture, laws and prejudices which in the end leave him embittered and broken. In this powerfully written novel of two stories that coalesce in the final chapter, Fergus Macpherson gives a poignant impression of Zambia before independence... a multiplicity of personalities and attitudes that existed in both African and European communities, their reactions to each others' culture... He shows that, whatever their ideals, the fate of all men is inexorably intertwined.
