Product description

Title: One - Leg

The Life and Letters of Henry William Paget, First Marquess of Anglesey, K.G., 1768 - 1854

Author: The Marquess of Anglesey F.S.A.

Henry William Paget, first Marquess of Anglesey, born more than twenty years before the French Revolution, lived to see the start of the Crimean War. Like his famous chief at Waterloo, he became a legend during his lifetime. As a youth he was in one scrape after another, in his forties he figured in a celebrated elopement and duel which caused much scandal; but he is best known for his greatness as a Calvary leader. His audacious screening of ' England's only Army' in the retreat to Corunna was a main factor in saving it from destruction, and his brilliant timing of the charge of the 'heavies' at Waterloo averted disaster in the first crisis of that battle. Having lost a leg by one of the last shots fired on that sanguinary day, he was later known as One - Leg Paget.

The book has blue boards with a yellow covering to the spine and hinge and gilt lettering to the spine.

The dust jacket in is poor condition.

The upper outer edge of the front and rear of the dust jacket has heavy wear and tear. The lower outer edge of the dust jacket has wear and tear.

The upper and lower edges of the spine have heavy wear and tear. There is heavy wear and tear along the hinge of the spine in all four outer corners.

The front and rear sleeve has been clipped in all four corners.

The upper and lower outer corners of the front and rear boards have bumping.

The upper and lower edges of the spine have bumping.

There are scratches and stains on the upper and lower cover of the dustjacket.

As can be seen from the picture there is an extended genealogical table showing the predecessors of the first Marquess of Anglesey at the front of the book and at the rear of the book there is a genealogical table that has not been photographed showing the decendants of the first Marquess of Anglesey.
