Portrait of the Soviet Union

£4.99

Product description

Published to accompany a major TV series on the Soviet Union, for which the author had acted as Chief Consultant, this book, as its title indicates, gives the reader a portrait of the Soviet Union and its peoples as they were at the time of writing in 1988. It also offers some illuminating insights into its history, from the emergence of Russia to the present day. From the better-known Moscow and Leningrad, Maclean takes the reader to the great cities like Samarkand and Bokhara at the heart of Central Asia, through the Caucasus over the Georgian Military Highway into Georgia and Armenia and into the depths of Siberia, while sympathetically portraying the peoples that lived there. In good condition with only minor nicks and scratches to dust jacket. Boards and interior as new; gilt lettering on spine. Illustrated throughout with a mixture of colour and b/w photographic plates.
