Presenting the Turkey: The Fabulous Story of a Flamboyant and Flavourful Bird

£14.99

Product description

In this book, art historian Sabine Eiche has assembled a delightful collection of art to illustrate the turkey's adventures in Europe. The idea for Presenting the Turkey came to the author by reading a letter dated in 1531, written by an agent of Duke Francesco Maria della Rovere of Urbino, who recounted having seen something very odd - birds that were a kind of Indian peacock, stranger than anything an artist would ever have been able to imagine drawing. There is a chapter on turkey and the culinary arts through history, a chapter on turkey lore, turkey language and the turkey in art. At the end is a chapter of prose and poetry about the turkey.

There is a clear plastic page tipped in at the front of the book with the printed message "Presented with the compliments of British United Turkeys Ltd." Also included is a loose compliments slip from the same company.

CONDITION: Almost as new, some minor scuffs to DJ otherwise clean and bright. Bright green boards with title to spine.
