The Book of Colchester

£9.99

Product description

Modern Colcestrians tread the debris of over twenty centuries of human occupation, in the footsteps of Celt and Roman, Saxon and Dane, Norman and Netherlander. Fire, plague, gunshot and earthquake have shaped this most ancient of England's towns. The Book of Colchester strips the surface off the past with care and precision. Dr Stephenson lays old ghosts and bares new facts with skill and affection, his succinct text embellished with some 200 pictures, many never before published. Brown cloth boards in very good condition; front board has a very small green smudge near the bottom-left corner; rear board slightly discoloured at the bottom edge. Spine in good condition, with mildly bumped head and foot. Gilt debossed titles to front board and spine. Edges toned and showing minor signs of foxing. Front and end matters slightly toned and foxed. Contents clean with no marks or inscriptions. Profusely illustrated with nearly 200 black-and-white photographs and documents facsimiles.
