The Last Tide - A History Of The Port Of Preston 1806 - 1981

£11.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

328pp. Good Condition, with some Shelfwear and signs of Prior Usage. Pencil Markings on the First Page. Comes with a Booklet on The Port of Preston.

The Port of Preston slipped quietly into history at midnight on Saturday, 31st October 1981, closing an episode which had begun in considerably louder fashion in 1892 when the new Preston dock was opened. But, as Jack Dakres shows, the history of the Port of Preston is considerably older that that, dating back at least to 1806 with the formation of the First Ribble Navigation Company. Through several ups and many downs, the Port has played an important part in the history and employment of the town, and this book provides a useful narrative account of that story.
