The Pacific

£3.49

Product description

Hardback green cloth with gilt titles to spine, dust jacket.
Book is in very good condition, signs of shelf wear, some light foxing to bottom page edges, some very light foxing to fore page edges and some tanning to top page edges. Rear board top fore corner has a internal "Bump" (slight extra thickness) which looks to be a small object caught under the cloth during manufacturing. Internally book is very clean and tidy. Dust jacket shows light shelf wear to top edge.
THE PACIFIC is a gripping piece of historical writing following the extraordinary true stories of four U.S. Marines and a U.S. Navy carrier pilot fighting in the Pacific region during World War II. Between America's retreat from China in late November 1941 and the moment General MacArthur's airplane touched down on the Japanese mainland in August 1945, five men - Austin Shofner, Vernon Micheel, Sidney Phillips, Eugene Sledge and John Basilone - fought the key battles in the war against Japan. From the debacle in Bataan, to the miracle at Midway and the relentless vortex of Guadalcanal, the war led one to the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot and the others to the coral strongholds of Peleliu, the black terraces of Iwo Jima and the killing fields of Okinawa, until at last the survivors enjoyed a triumphant, yet uneasy, return home. In THE PACIFIC Hugh Ambrose focuses on the struggles and triumphs of these men who put their lives on the line for the allied forces. The book is the official companion to the HBO miniseries THE PACIFIC, executive produced by Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman - the producers of the Emmy(-winning 2001 miniseries BAND OF BROTHERS.

Wonder how this unique item ended up online?

Most of the second-hand items you see online have been donated, by supporters like you, to our high street stores. Each item is then priced, photographed and listed on this site by our amazing team of volunteers from across the country.

After you have bought your item, our team of volunteers package and dispatch it from the Shop straight to you or your chosen recipient.

All profits from the sales of our goods go towards funding Oxfam's work around the world. We rely on your donations to sell online so please keep the cycle of goodness going!

Oxfam Bookshop St Albans

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller, but it doesn't stop there. We sell a great range of donated music as well. Whether it's vintage LPs or the latest modern fiction you want, we're well worth a look! We also sell greetings cards for every occasion. And of course we have some great stock for sale on Oxfam's Online Shop, too. Call us to find out more.

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
