The Skilled Labourer 1760-1832

£5.99

Product description

"The Skilled Labourer provides a detailed history of the skilled workers in various industries during the period 1760-1832. It shows what was happening to this section of the working classes at a time, during the Industrial Revolution, when working conditions underwent a period of dramatic change. Looking in detail at what was happening in the various industries - the miners of the Tyne and Wear, the cotton workers, the woollen and worsted workers, the Spitalfields silkweavers, the framework knitters - the authors trace the loss of freedom in the workers' daily lives, with the accompanying dissolution of old village society, and the growing concentration of economic power in the hands of the few. The book also includes a full account of the Luddite Rising in Nottingham, Lancashire and Yorkshire, and of those connected with the adventures of Oliver, the famous agent provocateur."

Book in very good condition.
