The Story of an Island in the Country of Hans Christian Andersen

£8.99

Product description

This little book is a history of the island in Denmark called Amager, which is attached to Zealand and which is home to some 200,000 people. It contains, as well as the suburbs of Copenhagen, rich agricultural land and this book is a celebration by a seedsman of his firm’s roots and the origin of some of the eponymous plants there produced. The reference to Hans Christian Andersen in the title is somewhat misleading; indeed it is his country, but his connection with this little book is tenuous.
Hansen hardback with no DJ. Very good binding and no marks. Eight full page colour illustrations by Axel Mathiesen and some black & white illustrations within the text. Brown lined paper boards with paste down to the cover. Label on the front with title; spine worn at top and bottom and corners bumped. There is some foxing to page edges and to the front and back end papers.

Limited Edition of 1000 copies but his volume is not numbered or signed. The book was published as 'a greeting to friends in the seed trade in their countries' and tells the story of the Amager Island.
