A new impressions of the books first published in 1914 (volume I) and 1920 (volume II).
Hardbacks; 150x220 mm; green boards with gold titles on spine; volume I; 295 pages plus unpaginated front matter; volume II: 525 pages. Clipped dust jackets. Volume I: 6 illustrations; volume II: 17 illustrations.
Both volumes are in good condition. The Binding is sound. There are some marks on the dust jacket, particularly volume I. There is some chipping of the top of Volume I’s jacket. The spines of both jackets are tanned.
Although written a century ago, these two volumes are still an authoritative work on the history of the Thames navigation. In the General History Thacker tells the story of water carriage on the river from pre-Conquest days to the beginning of the 20th century. In Locks and Weirs he starts at Thames Head and takes the reader past every bridge, weir, lock and inn that stood on the river when he wrote, or the site which he had been able to trace beside the water or in the records.
These books appeal to those will an interest of the history of history of the Thames navigation, how it may have change in the present day, and to those who cruise its waters or live beside it today.
