U-Boats in Action 1939-1945

£19.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Hardback with pictorial dust jacket, it has blue cloth covers with white titling on the spine. It is in good condition although there is a book plate from a previous owner inside the front cover. It contains an introduction and has been illustrated throughout. Text is bilingual, in German and English.
During World War 2, German submarines sunk 2840 merchant ships totalling over 14 million tons and 150 warships. Indeed Sir Winston Churchill commented in his memoirs that it was the U-boats which has brought Britain to the edge of the abyss. This is the story of U-boat warfare, vividly recalled in pictures, and of the often bitter actions fought on the high sees - in the Atlantic, the North Sea, the Mediterranean and the southern oceans. There is a detailed and informative text to support his collection of over 450 dramatic photographs. The book is a pictorial logbook of life in a U-Boat, containing both German and English text. It highlights the hopes, the successes and disappointments of the German crews who manned the U-boats.
