Warships of the Royal Navy - First Series: Sail

£34.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

This book is concerned with British warships built or acquired during the second half of the 18th century and the first 15 years of the 19th. The introductory text gives a brief account of the ship-building of the time, current naval strategy, the use of recognition flags and a description of a seaman’s day to day life on board while the commentary provides descriptions of the ships ranging in size from Nelson’s ‘Victory’ to the ‘Pickle’, the schooner that brought the news of his death and the victory at Trafalgar to England. The Author also tells the stories of individual ships, of the men who commanded them and of the battles in which they took part.

Very good condition. White paper boards with gilt lettering to front and spine show only one or two minor marks and dents. There is also slight evidence of sunning along the edges. Internally, the pages are clean, other than some minor foxing to the free endpapers, and undamaged. All 12 colour plates are present.

The dust jacket is in good condition. There is wear consistent with age including sunning, rubbed corners and a 3cm closed tear on the upper edge.
