Stitches from western embroideries

£30.00

Product description

Percy Lund, Humphries & Co., Ltd., London, 1922. Hard Back. Book Condition: Very Good Plus. 6 pages, Plates 82-129 (i.e.47 plates). Hardback with mid-brown cloth boards and titles in gilt to spine and cover in very good condition. An ex-library copy with the usual library markings. The plates and text have been bound by the library, as evidenced by binding slip bound in at rear before last endpaper. Spine has been bound in a darker brown, but has also become grubby through handling. Spine and corners bumped. A colour plate (10 x 15 cm) of some stitching has been pasted on to front board. Boards tanned on inside rear and front on edges. Text block firm, clear and unmarked. Text consists of introductory note and explanations of the diagrams of stitches, followed by the plates of photographs. First plate shows brown-stitched bedquilt, all the rest are of Western samplers showing stitching examples in blue, red and white with their names and the countries in which they have been found below. This is Portfolio 3 to accompany Portfolio 1 (Stitches from Old English embroideries) and Portfolio 2 (Stitches from Eastern Embroideries). The stitches selected are from the extreme west of Europe, together with the opposite shore of the Mediterranean. Undated, but probably from 1922. Size: 26 x 17 Cm. Ex-Library.
