This major two volume reference work covers over 1,000 genera and is the most comprehensive work of its kind, bridging the divide between scientific texts and everyday horticultural books and providing an unrivalled insight into the relationships between garden plants and the natural environment from which they come.
Volume I deals with trees, shrubs and climbers and covers over 450 genera of woody plants. Volume II deals with the herbaceous plants and covers over 550 genera of annuals, biennials, perennials, bulbs and aquatic plants. Each featured plant has been carefully photographed, as a whole and in its parts, against a white background to show the plant's physical characteristics in detail.
The books themselves are in fine condition with an "as new" appearance. They are attractively produced, with the colour illustrations printed on glossy paper.
The jackets are in very good condition, with some colour fading on the spines. Vol. I jacket has slight bumping to the rear lower edge. Vol. II has similar bumping to the lower front edge and a closed tear approx. 3.6cm at the bottom of the front flap fold. The books are held in a strong green card slipcase which has a little wear to corners and a short split, approx. 2cm., to the bottom right corner.
