Brněnské Podzemí 1 (Brno Underground 1)

£10.99

Product description

In Czech, with a summary in English and German. The publication is an excursion to the historical underground of the city of Brno not accessible to the public. In more than twenty years of systematic activity, a surprising number of interesting cellars, corridors, galleries and wells have been discovered and redeveloped, documenting thousands of archaeological finds and making a lot of important historical knowledge. Some of them, supplemented by known historical connections, layouts and archaeological finds, are presented in this publication. In ten chapters, it provides insights into places that are difficult to access, but most interesting, which have never been published before, through almost three hundred colour and black and white photographs. Cellar labyrinths below the Vegetable Market, Petrov underground with rock cellars and historical water reservoirs, the latest discoveries under Dominican Square and Běhounská street, the cellar as the only remains of the original buildings of the Roman Square and the massive underground of Pekařská Street will surprise you with its diversity and vastness. As well as the underground of Orlí Street with the Voršilek Monastery, Starobrněnská Street with cellars still used today as wine bars and restaurants, discoveries below the Freedom Square with the defunct Church of St. Nicholas and buildings of modern collectors, emerging at present. With its new information on the specific construction activities of their ancestors, it will undoubtedly extend knowledge and facts about the multifaceted history of the city of Brno.
Photographic boards in good condition, with bumped corners an edges and minor signs of shelf-wear. Spine in very good condition, with ends slightly rubbed. No dust jacket. Tight binding. Edges clean showing no signs of toning or foxing. Contents very clean and bright, free from marks and inscriptions. Profusely illustrated with colour and b&w photographs and maps.
