The way of the sword

£14.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

This book is in good condition throughout although the pages have yellowed. The previous owner's name is in the book.

Kendo, the art of the sword, is the Japanese art of fencing. Much more than mere athletic technique, swordsmanship for the Japanese is an artistic, philosophical and sacred tradition. Zen Buddhism related the correct practice of swordsmanship to exercises for attaining enlightenment, while Confucianism, emphasising the ethical meaning, equated it with service to the state. The Japanese swordsman aims to go beyond technique to the deepest essence of the art of the sword. Once discovered, it reveals a completely new dimension of existence - harmony with the laws of nature, from which source alone perfect swordsmanship is possible. This classic text is accompanied by Reinhardt Kammer's history and interpretation of the role of the sword in Japan.
