Throughout the 1970s, author William Sims Bainbridge investigated the Process Church, which he described as being a "deviant psychotherapy cult" in his book "Satan's Power". In recent decades, Bainbridge has become co-director of Cyber-Human Systems at the National Science Foundation, and unlike other true crime writers, Bainbridge now holds a positive view of the long-disbanded Process Church, and believes that it assisted people in many ways. "Revival" gives readers a fictional restoration of the controversial group in which every Process member is pictured as representing a fragment of a god, either Lucifer, Satan, Jehovah, or Christ, or a mix of them. The pages of "Revival" reveal whether the Processeans achieve the hopes expressed in their blessing: "May the life-giving water of the Lord Christ and the purifying fire of the Lord Satan bring the presence of love and unity into this assembly".
